One of our mottoes at the The Modern Home Bar is that a cocktail doesn't have to be complicated to be delicious. Especially if you are new to the home bar scene, there are many classic cocktails and riffs on those drinks that contain just two or three ingredients.
While it is the dead of winter, we can't help but day dream about sipping one of our favorite 3 ingredient cocktails while sitting on a warm breezy beach or underneath the shade of a big porch. Warm weather to us always reminds us of an Aperol Spritz. A true summertime favorite (but one you can also enjoy anytime you are serving brunch), this sparkling cocktail became popular during the mid-20th Century and was inspired by Venetians who mixed their white wine with sparkling water. The Italian aperitif Aperol, a light orange-colored liquor that originated in Padua in 1919, was added to the white wine and sparkling water combination and became known as an Aperol Spritz.
Our version of an Aperol Spritz substitutes Prosecco (an Italian sparkling wine) for the white wine and sparkling water mix. We add Aperol and also add another bitter ingredient grapefruit juice. The combination is wonderfully delicious! All of these ingredients are readily available at grocery stores and liquor stores.
- 4oz. Grapefruit Juice
- 1oz. Aperol
- 4oz. Prosecco
This cocktail is built in the glass (we like using our Hext Me collins glass to make this drink). Combine ingredients over ice and stir slightly. Garnish with a grapefruit peel.
To show you just how easy this cocktail is to make, we also made you a tutorial. It's now time for you to give it a try!
